Anne received no schooling. She did studying on her own,
mostly while out with the goats - the young goats often staying
nearby or sleeping in her lap. Later, at age nineteen, she
received her GED diploma.

Anne's baskets are original and unique. She has never taken
lessons, studied books or contacted other basket makers for
ideas. During her more than thirty years of basketmaking, Anne
has won many awards.

She lives outside Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband
and five children - the children now do a lot of the basket
making with her.
About Anne
Born in Vermont, Anne moved with her family to Virginia at
age four. She grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge
Mountains, one of eleven children.

Her family, early hippies, had many animals including dairy
goats. Anne often had the job of tending the herd of goats on
unfenced parts of the property.
The goats easily learned where they
could go, so it was an easy job with
free time. Anne sometimes made
little circles or wreaths for her hair
with the nearby honeysuckle.

Honeysuckle Baskets

At age twelve she made her first basket, using a coil made of
honeysuckle. This same coil pattern is used in all her baskets.
